Wo bist du ? - Where are you ?
Ich bin in Berlin. - I am in Berlin.
Now, words to be learnt :
wo - where ?
in - in
in Berlin - in Berlin
Klaus - Klaus (male, first name)
Sussane - Susan (female, first name)
Das Auto,- s - a car, -s
Visualization also helps to remember new words more easily :
Berlin - Berlin
München - Munich
Hamburg - Hamburg
Köln - Cologne
Frankfurt - Frankfurt
Stuttgart - Stuttgart
Leipzig - Leipzig
Dresden - Dresden
The personal pronouns
ich - I
du - you (singular)
er,sie,es - he, she, it
wir - we
ihr - you (plural)
sie - they
German has formal and informal pronouns for English "you".
du and ihr are informal.
Now the most important for the beginners, and the most commonly used verb - Sein, or "to be".
Sein - present tense
sein - to be
ich bin - I am
du bist - you are
er, sie, es ist - he, she, it is
wir sind - we are
ihr seid - you are
sie sind - they are
Du bist in München.
You are in Munich. (singular)
Ihr seid in Dresden.
You are in Dresden. (plural)
And finally, to remind yourself and to become more familiar with new words, try to read all 6 examples - start with english version and try to come up with the german one on your own. If you can't, no worries, just say it out loud to help your brain in getting used to the language.
