Lesson 11 - The verb - irregular present tense

Morning everybody,

last time we've learnt how "lernen" changes from person to person in the present tense and what are the

endings that are used with regular verbs...well, as time passes, and we are all "big boys" and "big girls" now, we can definitely go for some harder stuff :) and before anyone gets distracted with some things that come to his or her mind when "harder stuff" appears in the text, I'm gonna say that this is still about the grammar..about German grammar to be specific :)

That big intro was to prepare you guys for the irregular verbs in present tense, as you're gonna learn today that these change and may be annoying in the beginning..well, technically it's our 11th lesson, so we're not in the beginning, but still...

without further ado, please say hello to ...yeah, almost got you :) first things first - vocabulary that might be useful :

Like you've probably guessed, nehmen and fahren are irregular verbs. And like many irregular verbs they have special present tense forms for the 2nd and the 3rd persons singular.

Here's how it goes :

As you can see, I didn't lie, all that changes , comparing to the regullar verbs, is the second and the third form. Same goes for fahren - only in "du" and "er,sie,es" (or the 2nd and the 3rd form) something changes, the rest is the same. Which means, that if you don't remember Lesson 10 and the word "lernen", it's better to go back and remind yourself about those endings from time to time...actually, one purpose of this blog, is to have everything in one place, named and structurized appropriately, to get back to it as soon as I forget anything...which happens quite often...:))

Some examples before we'll go on with the exercises :

And now to the most entertaining part of our grammar sessions - to the exercises :))

That was it for today, please remember that :

Über Nacht wird man nur dann berühmt, wenn man tagsüber hart gearbeitet hat.
You only become famous overnight if you've worked hard during the day.

So even if you don't chase the trinity - money power & fame, work hard during the day, stay positive and stay germanizzzed!

Cheers,
Bryvus
